Keep an untouched copy of your source records. The aim is not merely to move rows—it is to preserve the relationships your school relies on.
01 // SETUP
List the fields you need: student identifier, name, class, relevant contact details and guardian relationships. Separate required fields from optional ones.
Resolve duplicate identifiers and inconsistent class names. Review who is permitted to handle the data and use a secure transfer method. Never publish student records in support screenshots.
02 // SETUP
Create the academic structure first. Use the fields and import format supported by the current Students page, or agree an assisted migration process before preparing a bulk file.
Start with a representative sample, including students with multiple guardians or unusual class assignments. Check the resulting profiles and links before proceeding.
03 // SETUP
Compare source and destination counts by class. Check duplicate records, missing fields and guardian links, then separately reconcile any financial opening balances.
Keep a record of what was migrated and when. Decide how to handle updates made during the transfer, and retain the original records according to your institution’s retention policy.
